Low Paying Gigs

I have been seeing an influx of lowing paying gigs lately. This is disturbing. I don't know if it is because those requesting writers at low pay are just simply scumbags who like to take advantage of writers, or are legitimate buisness people.
I understand that writers have, what they believe to be, a livable wage. And they don't care to take low paying gigs, just to make money.
I say that is no excuse. I happen to be a struggling writer but I will not take a low paying gig. Why should I accept $1 per article. Come on. It takes a good deal of time to do research and then to write the article.
I don't think that people understand the value of writers and what they do. If they did, maybe they would not pay such insanely low wages.
Maybe if writers took a stand and stopped bidding on these low paying gigs, it will prove something to those people that they cannot offer low paying work and get away with it.
You wouldn't hire a plumber and pay him below his rate, would you. He would sue you in small claims court. So don't do it to writers either. They are professionals just like plumbers and electricians.
